The Health & Home Care Foundation of BC (Care BC Foundation) is the fundraising arm of the Health & Home Care Society of BC (Care BC).Funds raised by the Foundation are used exclusively to support Care BC’s charitable programs – Western Meals on Wheels and Chinese Meals on Wheels (serving Vancouver and Richmond), North Shore Meals on Wheels, and The Community Integration Project. Launched on September 18, 2024, Care BC’s Because You CARE Capital Campaign united more than 100 supporters behind a shared aspiration: building a much‑needed respite hub to support caregivers and honour seniors. Because You CARE Campaign Kick-Off Reception
On September 18th, Care BC launched its Because You CARE campaign at the Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver, gathering over 100 dedicated supporters committed to improving the lives of caregivers and their loved ones in our community. The event was emceed by the charismatic Fred Lee and featured Honorary Chair Hamid Eshghi, along with esteemed guests including Tom Chambers, Chair of the Care BC Foundation Board, fellow Board Directors, and Xwalacktun, a distinguished artist and renowned Master Carver of Coast Salish ancestry.
The evening event (featured by the North Shore News) underscored the vital importance of respite care through a poignant presentation that included personal stories and testimonials on the complexities caregivers face when supporting family members with cognitive and chronic health issues. Accessing Care BC’s North Shore Family Respite Centre's programs once the construction of the building is completed will allow caregivers to take essential breaks, enabling them to continue providing care for their loved ones at home.
The Because You CARE capital campaign aims to build a Family Respite Centre (FRC) on the North Shore to meet the growing need for this crucial service amid an aging population. During the evening, Dr. Inge Schamborzki, Chief Development Officer of the Care BC Foundation, shared the exciting news that construction of the FRC is underway on the northwest corner of St. Georges Avenue between East 1st and East 2nd, in Lower Lonsdale.
Mike Boehm, the recent past Chair of the North Shore Community Foundation (NSCF), reaffirmed the organization's support for the campaign by offering an additional $20,000, contingent on matching donations that evening. A generous guest stepped up to meet this challenge, making the match possible. This significant contribution builds on the NSCF's earlier gift of $50,000 raised during their June golf tournament.
Care BC has fundraised $8.5 million of the estimated $12 million total capital costs. The goal now is to secure the remaining funds needed as soon as possible to complete the project on time (currently scheduled for Fall 2025).

Many thanks to all the players, sponsors, community supporters, and volunteers, and the North Shore Community Foundation, for their generous support in helping us raise $50,000 toward the development of Care BC’s North Shore Family Respite Centre.
These funds will be used to assist with construction costs of a much needed, state-of-the-art 18 bed adult day care and overnight respite centre for North Shore seniors diagnosed with dementia, who are living at home, thereby enabling their caregivers to get the periods of “respite” or the rest they need to continue caring for their loved ones at home. Construction is well underway with a projected completion by the late Fall of 2025.

Community Integration Project (CIP)The Community Integration Project (CIP) assists people with newly acquired disabilities adapt to their housing and daily living needs. The CIP offers two specially-designed and equipped apartments to help during this process.
